You may have seen recent news about updates to Massachusetts laws regarding rental properties and broker fees. These changes impact how agents can represent landlords and tenants.

In short: landlords can no longer require tenants to pay the broker fee. However, a tenant can independently choose to hire their own agent.

If you’re a tenant, this means you’re not responsible for paying a fee for an agent you didn’t hire. If you do choose to work with your own agent, you may still pay them a fee directly.
